JOLIET – A candidate for Illinois attorney general will be in Joliet to meet with voters and answer questions this week.

Democrat Jesse Ruiz will be at Heroes West Sports Grill on Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

“This is your chance to ask Jesse the questions you want answered about the state of Illinois,” a Facebook event description said.

Ruiz is a partner at the law firm Drinker Biddle & Reath, where he focuses on business transactions, venture capital and private equity investments, equity and debt offerings, financings and a variety of commercial transactions.

Ruiz served as the vice president of the Chicago Board of Education after Mayor Rahm Emanuel appointed him in 2011 until 2016.

In 2015, he also served as the interim CEO of Chicago Public Schools.

Ruiz received his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School and a bachelor’s degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Ruiz was born on the South Side of Chicago and now lives in Wicker Park with his wife and two kids.
